Episodes 89 & 90
Black Widow Strikes Again/Caught in the Spider’s Den
Plot:Using a neuro paralyzer device Black Widow is able to rob banks
Guest Stars:Miss Tallulah Bankhead as Black Widow
Trivia:Miss Tallula Bankhead’s final role.
Niitpick:Batman under control of someone else. The villain turning people into mindless slaves. Villain disguised as Robin. Commissioner wants to arrest Batman, dead or alive. People believing Batman is dead. Glad all these ideas weren’t already done in other episodes!
Bat Silliness:Batman has a bad day! He’s even mind slaved.
Bat Gadget:Brain Wave Bat Analyzer which looks remarkably like a woman’s haridryer from the 60’s. A Bat mini volt charger magically appears on the utility belt.
Bat Trap:In a giant web with huge spiders (that’s what I call committing to a theme!). The spiders are soooo fake.
Final Thoughts:Another one I could not remember for the life of me. We meet Black Widow right away as if we’ve seen her a million times, though I do like her accompanying music. At first she doesn’t seem that special, she’s a bank robber. Then she takes out a little box that can make people her mindless slaves. I like that this villain was around before Batman and Robin, it’s nice to see crime still happened before they showed up. Batman figures out her next target and plans a trap. Any guesses how that turns out? First we waste time with a wimpy bank manager to pad things. And while Batman is smart enough to resist her sonic box he does fall victim for a paralyzing spray. Then just as I was about to criticize Batman for falling for an obvious trick, turns out he didn’t fall for it for a second. Truth is this is more padding to delay Batman and Robin from finding Widow. And when they finally do it’s Bat fight/trap time. When all the padding is done Widow is able to take over Batman’s mind (by the way he is having a bad day!). And are we supposed to really believe that Black Widow is disguised as Robin? I do like that Batman wasn’t faking this time, Robin had to help him back to normal. Excerpt Batman still has to be Batman so he did have some control, enough to tip Alfred and subsequently Gordon off.
Grade:B Not terrible and points for keeping me interested but there’s no question this show is meant for kids these twists are so predictable.
