Episodes 53 & 54
Green Ice/Deep Freeze
Plot:Mr.Freeze frames Batman and Robin by making people think they took a bribe
Guest Stars:Otto Preminger as Mr.Freeze
Trivia:Burt Ward suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on one of his arms at some point which the actors try to hide through the episode (not very well at times). Mr.Freeze uses duplicates of Batman and Robin to frame the duo, who are clearly played by the stunt doubles for West and Ward.
Niitpick:Just once I want the narrator at the top of the episode to say “What a crappy miserable day in Gotham City”. By the way ever notice that the screen is at an angle when its the villain’s scene? That’s because they are “crooked”
Bat Silliness:After Batman and Robin are framed we get a scene of a little boy booing a picture of the duo. Don’t worry, the boy likes them again at the end
Bat Gadget:Ever wonder how the two get back up the batpoles? A compressed airlift sends them back up.
Bat Trap:Batman and Robin in giant snow cones
Final Thoughts:I was really anxious to see this one because I can’t remember it. The only Freeze one I kind of recalled was the Sanders one, where he wore no makeup and they spend half the episode sitting at a table talking. Yawn. So is this a better take on the character? Better than Sanders but I’ll wait til Eli Wallach to make a final decision. The episode makes much better use of the freeze gimmick that’s for sure. And no silly climate controlled room, this Freeze doesn’t care how cold his underlings are. If you think it’s taking me forever to get to the plot, the episode does the same thing. The idea of framing Batman and Robin is good but so lamely done. Last episode the whole city loved them why have they turned on the two so easily? So we have the frame story, we have Mr.Freeze demanding a billion dollars or he’ll cover the city with ice, and he has kidnapped a Ms.Iceland to make her his wife. How many plots do we need in one episode?
Grade:C, convoluted but a better Mr.Freeze for sure
