Plot:Catwoman steal twin Gold Cat Statuettes from the museum and plays cat and mouse with Batman
Guest Stars:Julie Newmar as Catwoman. Man did I like her……
Trivia:Julie Newmar designed and sewed the costumes herself. Her costume was unique for the show and not based on a classic conic design. She had never heard of the show when she got the call and her brother insisted she had to be on it.
Nitpick:While it gets old that all a of these villain schemes involves stealing something on this show, at least with Catwoman her whole deal is that she’s a cat burglar so I can live with it here.
Bat Silliness:There had been complaints that Batman and Robin did not wear seat belts, so we stop for a seat belt psa with batman telling robin to buckle up, and starting with this episode we see them click it every time they jump into the Batmobile. Speaking of we see how the duo recharges he Batmobile…for some reason ?
Bat Gadget:Batmobile’s tires can automatically repair themselves when flattened. Man am I jealous
Bat Trap:Batman vs a ferocious tiger and Robin almost dropped into another pit of Tiger’s
Final Thoughts:Julie Newmarr was perfect as Catwoman, she made that character iconic. I know we’ve had several other women play Catwoman since, but none can match Newmar. A lot of villains come of crazy she comes off as truly evil. I noted how Burgess Meredith embodied his character better than any other, but Julie Newmar put a spin on Catwoman to make her portrayal loyal to the conics but still her own thing. And she has our attention as soon as the episode starts! Of course the sexual chemistry between Catwoman and Batman is great, and this was before they were an item in the comic books. Catwoman appears to die at the end, but we know that’s not so (though how is never explained). It does seem liked there is a rule on this show that women villains either die, or repent. Can’t women be arrested?
Grade:A,Batman spends most of the episode working his way through Catwoman’s death lair which is a nice change of pace.
