Batman (1966) Episode 7&8

Episodes 7&8
Instant Freeze/Rats Like Cheese

\

Plot:-Mr.Freeze is seeking revenge on Batman who spilled a freeze solution on him causing him to live in -50 degree conditions.

Guest Stars:George Sanders as Mr.Freeze. Three actors would play the character in this series his one the most forgettable. That suit is ridiculous, not that he wears it much. It seems like the actor didn’t want to deal with makeup since he wears NONE.

Trivia:Mr.Freeze was based on a comic book hero called Mr.Zero. This is the first episode to do the iconic “atomic batteries to power, turbines to speed” line in he opening

Niitpick:Mr.Freeze is stealing diamonds to power his freeze gun. They should have used that in a movie! LOL One awful scene has Bruce and Dick at a baseball game. When Mr.Freeze unleashes a threat to Batman via sky writing, the two make up a lame excuse and run off on the others at the game. I mean. Wow, if they’re not gonna even try to be subtle why not just say “oops sorry, we’re the Dynamic Duo and gotta run!”

Bat Silliness:Mr.Freeze can change the temperature in a room with the flip of a switch. From arctic cold to comfortably warm. I need that “Of course, don’t you know anything about science?” joke Linkara uses. How does that work???

Bat Gadget:Batman wears his thermal underwear to survive Mr.Freeze’s cold

Bat Trap: Batman and Robin are blasted by the freeze gun. Not bad, but solution is lame.

Final Thoughts:The Animated Series gets credit for reinventing Mr.Freeze, but this series did also to a degree. The character was Dr.Zero in the comics but it was changed by this series. To bad the backstory keeps changing with every iterating. This wouldn’t be the last character invented for the series, which I covered before, but we’ll get to them as we go. As for the episode, it’s ok I like how we find out Batman is accidentally responsible for what happened to Mr.Freeze. If they’re not gonna do Two Face then why not? I picked on Sanders a lot but he is a pretty menacing villain (just a crappy Mr.Freeze). My one gripe is that final fight, Yeah every episode has one but here they have outwitted the villain and have the henchman contained. But they still have to have a fight and it’s sooo forced.

Grade:B, this episode is pretty forgettable, except for that stupid climate controlled room where a red light means warm and blue means arctic. Sure
