So I guess I have to do this one, never really wanted to. I don't need to explain what an icon Betty White was we all know it. She has done a lot of movie and TV, and so as a tribute due to her passing today here are five of my favorites. We all know about stuff like Mary Tyler Moore, Golden Girls, and Hot in Cleveland but there were plenty more.
Who's The Boss?
There was a period after Mary Tyler Moore where Betty White seemed to be typecast as bitchy and or sex starved people. Her one-time appearance on this show is a prime example. The character was basically Sue Ann Nivens if she were a reporter. But Betty White is still awesome in the episode.
Empy Nest
I really think The Golden Girls saved Betty White's career because there she proved she didn't have to be sex starved or bitchy to be funny. Rose was a sweet, simple, and lovable character and my favorite of White's roles. So of course, when the show got a spin off, Betty White brought her awesome character to it a couple times. She also appeared on the sister show Nurses.
The Ladies Man
This was an awful Alfred Molina sitcom that most people have probably forgotten. Betty White was on it and was a highlight. The character was sort of a proto version of her Hot in Cleveland character a few years later, both showing that even though she had done sweet and simple Rose she could still do the sassier stuff.
I could be here all day listing her sitcom appearances. But what about the more dramatic stuff?
Boston Legal
Of course she did from Love Boat to Matlock. She was a genius comedienne, but she could do drama too as this clip highlights. Oh and I mention a little feature film called "The Proposal"? It's not easy to steal a movie from Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.
I should point out she did plenty of voice work in various cartoons including Toy Story 4 and a few Christmas specials. Not to mention her work on game shows also. There was a time when she the queen of game shows including a permanent seat on The Match Game. The woman was simply amazing.
One last clip is from her stint on SNL from a years ago. Fan demand got her to host at the age of 88 and she gave one of the best monologues ever on the show. What a pro.
Bob Saget just died today
