Batman (1966) Episode 97

Episodes 97

The Wail of the Siren

Plot:Siren schemes to be the richest woman in Gotham

Guest Stars:Joan Collins as Siren

Trivia:Well of course Batgirl has her own theme music. The short version is ok but the long version will make your ears bleed.

Niitpick:Siren’s wail noise could put smoke alarms to shame.

Bat Silliness:Gordon finally figures out Bruce Wayne is Batman. But don’t worry he forgets it by the end. By the way this episode has one of my favorite things ever. O’Hara is surprised to learn Barbara has one of those tricky little gizmo’s that answers a phone in the person’s voice and then replays the messages. I wonder if those will catch on?

Bat Gadget:Ear Plus because of course and the Bat Computer has a resistant bat light when it is posed a question it cannot answer.

Bat Trap:None

Final Thoughts:Siren mesmerizes Gordon and forces him to arrange a meeting with Batman at Barbara Gordon’s apartment. At the apartment Gordon doesn’t show up but Siren does. She sends Gordon to find Batman’s true identity while she works on her plan to steal from Bruce Wayne. Gordon stows away in the Batmobile and when he recognize Alfred he realizes Batman’s true identity. I love how Batgirl finds Siren while Batman and Robin are completely stumped. Of course with the Siren able to sway men but not women, it’s set up for Batgirl to save the day. But to the episodes credit, Robin and Batgirl team up in this one which really works well. So well I’ll forget that Bruce being swayed by Siren like that is kind of uncharacteristic and once again makes Batman look like a wimp. The final fight is on one of the fakest roof I’ve ever seen.

Grade:A, Ok aside from that horrific noise she makes, Joan Collins is adorable in this can’t complain about her. She really is one of the better female villains. What happened to her anyway? Robin and Batgirl are awesome together, no complaints there. Batman not appearing for half the episode? Yeah I have a few complaints. But this episode is enjoyable for season 3 that is high praise.
