Batman (1966) Episode 100

Episodes 100

The Unkindest Tut of All

Plot:King Tut predicts crimes in a plan to confuse the police so he can commit the crime of the century

Guest Stars:Victor Buono as King Tut

Trivia:First use of the “arriving at Gotham HQ” stick footage this season. I missed it.

Niitpick:Every episode with Tut begins with him having suffered yet another cranial trauma and ends with him suffering another. By now he’s lucky he hasn’t suffered real injury besides amnesia. Did I mention the new music this season is awful?

Bat Silliness:Barbara has a parrot named Charlie she talks to so she can discuss things. And you thought Alfred was silly.

Bat Gadget:Batmobile can be programmed to run when Bruce tells it to run.

Bat Trap:None

Final Thoughts:We open with Bruce and Barbara on a date, or are they just friends? We learn that King Tut has been predicting robberies for the police. Or course we have no mention of the fact that Barbara saw Tut at the end of last episode (ok ok I’ll stop bringing that up). Budgit cuts are obvious here, Tut’s lair was always very elaborate sets and this one looks like a school play version. Tut is able to put a tracker on the Batmobile to find the Batcave. And he finds it! Tut’s woman of the episode is really good too, giving him the adoration he longed for last time. Tut demands Batman and Bruce appear at the same time. But Batman is able to accomplish this feat with a dummy, a remote control for the lips, and of course Bruce’s super ventriloquism. Sigh. Thanks for making it so believable guys. This makes the ruse that Black Widow did in her episode look plausible. Tut’s big plan is to steal scrolls in the Gotham Library. Sigh again. I know Barbara Gordon is a librarian but does that mean every damn story has to have some plot element in that place? We just did this with the Penguin! Anyway the scroll’s reveal the secret location of a statue with unlimited power or something. Tut escapes to his lair where Batgirl, and then Batman and Robin, show up to end this episode.

Grade:B+, Good episode for season 3, Batgirl helps but isn’t integral to the plot. In fact this is the first time the Duo have to save her. There’s nothing wrong with avoiding that trope as long as it doesn’t make our heroes look like dopes.
