Top 12 Favorite Evil Villain Laugh’s

Villains are a lot of fun, and one of the coolest things that a villain does is the evil laugh. When done right, a villain laugh can send chills down your spine. Usually this comes at a moment when it looks as if they villain will win, and the right laugh shows extreme confidence. Check out this clip of Friends where Phoebe explains her plan laugh, and how the right laugh is key:

Course Friends is a sitcom, when these laughs really work is when it comes from a truly evil villain.
Here are my twelve favorite evil laughs :

#12.Cruella De vil  from 101 Dalmatians (Live)
Honestly, I hated both of these movies. But you gotta admire how much fun Glen Close has in this role. And it’s all summed up in this awesome laugh.

#11.Skeletor from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

I loved this one as a kid! Say what you want, but Skeletor was a pretty badass villain right down to that awesome laugh that I tried to copy many times as a kid.

#10.Mr.Burns from The Simpsons
The Simpsons has a lot of little things that are just awesome and will always be around. And one of those things is that sinister laugh Mr.Burns cackles.

#9.Jabba The Hut from Star Wars
I love this laugh, not because it’s big and booming. But because it’s so indifferent. Whenever someone tries to stand up to Jabba he just has this laugh which says “yeah, sure, I’m real scared now”.

#8.Captain Hook from Hook
Yeah ok this is a little more goofy than actually menacing, but you gotta love Dustin Hoffman here and how much he is enjoying himself.

#7.Agent Smith from The Matrix Revolutions
Never seen this movie, but after I saw the Nostalgia Critic review I couldn’t help but agree with him about how awesome this laugh is. Man Hugo Weaving hams this one up!

#6.Dracula from Bram Stoker’s Dracula
It takes an impressive performance for me to love something from a movie I’ve never seen. But Gary Oldman’s laugh here is just, delightful.

#5.Ursula from The Little Mermaid
Of course this whole list could just be Disney villains, they practically  invented the concept of the evil laugh. But I decided to keep it to two (three if you count Cruella). Ursula is played by Pat Carroll and everything she does is perfect. When she is singing, taunting Ariel, or even sad. It’s one of the best Disney villain characters and it all comes down that fantastic laugh.

#4.Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
Long before Ursula came this baddie. And let’s be honest, Maleficent is about the only good thing in Sleeping Beauty. Eleanor Audley had a such a wonderful evil voice. In fact she was also the voice of the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella and even the voice of Madame Leota in Disney’s The Haunted Mansion rides.

#3.The Joker from ???

Well here’s a toughie. Which Joker exactly? Cesar Romero had a fantastic laugh which helped to make this character so popular (in comics too). Jack Nicholson took that and made it damn scary. Of course Heath Ledger added a spark of true enjoyment, he loved causing the misery he was causing! And of course Mark Hamill who made the animated Joker stand on par with the live action versions. But for me it goes back to Nicholson, I think he just captured the classic laugh better (course that’s just me). Truth is they’re all wonderful and memorable!

But for those who prefer the Ledger version :

and finally, this moment from the Batman TV series  which features not only the wonderful Romero Joker but another great laugh from Riddler Frank Gorshin

and before anyone asks:

yeah that is pretty epic

#2.Wicked Witch of the West in Wizard of Oz

Is there a girl  who hasn’t down this laugh followed by the words “I’ll get you my pretty!”. Margaret Hamilton created a character so famous that she set a standard for witch’s that is still being followed in many ways. Well, witches in movies anyway.

#1.Vincent Price from Thriller
Technically a cheat but so what. How could I possibly leave this off? I talked a week ago about how awesome this song and video were. And the topper was that great laugh from the horror master, Vincent Price.

Finally, this scene from Austin Powers which is really a great take on the villain laugh, and exactly what happens after they stop laughing anyway?

Did I leave any off? Oh my yes! I could make a second list easily!! So comment and share you’re favorite evil villain laugh.
