When Halloween comes around, a lot of things get discussed. We think of costumes, scary monsters, and of course Halloween TV and movies. But there is one thing that gets a lot of attention on Halloween that no one ever talks about–CANDY!
For me, Hershey is king. I love Hershey Bars and I have been to Hershey PA more than a few times. I spent a lot of time discussing anniversaries this year, and well there is a candy related one I couldn’t ignore. Hershey was created in 1894 making this year the 125th anniversary of the company. Founded by Milton Hershey the company is one of the largest chocolate manufactures in the world. They have made a ton of items over the years, some of course purchased by other companies, and in honor of both Halloween and the 125th anniversary, I present the 10 best. So only one variety per product, or this list would be all Hershey bars. And since it’s too obvious, the classic Hershey bar is off the table. That’s a given (I adore them)! And no, ice cream will not be in on here because its gross. And yes, non chocolate counts!
#10.Almond Joy/Mounds
Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t! Almond Joy has nuts. Mounds don’t. One of the best ads in the 80’s made it very clear which candy was which, so simple and effective. To bad the candy is coconut or I’d eat it
#9.Whoppers
Who eats these?? These only seem to come around during Halloween when they are jammed into combo packages featuring more popular Hershey products. I guess they;re harmless, but who eats these???
#8.Bubble Yum
Hershey makes lots of candies like this, such as Breath Savers and Jolly Ranchers, which you’d never think are made by them. Wait, does that picture say that gum tastes like Hershey’s chocolate????
#7.Hershey Cookie n Creme
Obviously cookies and cream because they can’t say Oreo, but that the gist anyway. A lot of novelty Hershey candies have come and come (including Special Dark and Hershey Gold) but this one stuck and became a regular part of Hershey’s regular lineup. I don’t think the taste is perfect, but it’s good enough.
#6.Twizzlers
As I said there are a lot of products that you’d never believe they make like Rolo’s, 5th Avenue, Pay Day, and The Whatchamacallit Bar. These stand out for being so popular. While I am not fan of this product I have to admire how successful it was. Licorice candy isn’t usually.
#5.York Peppermint Pattie
There are a lot of companies who makes candy like this. You have Junior Mints and Andes mints (who still eats them?) But I think Hershey’s is the superior because it has more substance to it. When I get the sensation of York Peppermint Patty…….
#4.KitKat
Oddly, in Canada Nestle has the license for these for some reason. In this country it’s Hershey’s. KitKat is one of those items I never really crave, but I enjoy when I do have one. It’s a chocolate candy wafers (kinda like Twix but smaller). Give me a break of that kitkat bar!
#3.Hershey Kisses
I have a major weakness for Hershey kisses. I once ate so many I ended up getting sick on them. I guess it’s because they are so small. Hugs were around to they were white chocolate hugging the milk chocolate and were ok, I think they’re gone. Kisses are very much around and just great, and of course it prompted one of the longest running Christmas ads in history.
#2.Hershey Chocolate Syrup/Cocoa
I’ll be honest I kinda prefer Nestle in this one (and only) instance. But there is something about a bottle of that Hershey Syrup. No kitchen when I was growing up was complete with out one! How many people squirted that syrup right into their mouths? The cocoa gives the same feeling of nostalgia, and yes they also make chips for Chocolate Chip cookies. Why wouldn’t they?
#1.Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups/Reese’s Pieces
Ah. Another amazing ad was one where a person holding a chocolate bar collides with an another eating peanut butter (out of a jar, oddly). They realize that they got chocolate on the peanut butter and peanut butter on the chocolate. And that it’s amazing! It really incredible what great combination it makes and there aren’t many who will turn down a Reese’s Peanut Butter cup. What about Reese’s Pieces? Yeah I love them too, of course the movie E.T. made them popular. Reese’s has so many varities I could do a whole list just on them!
Of course I didn’t even get into the assorted sizes (who doesn’t love a bag of Hershey Miniatures?) or the holiday varieties that come out every year for Halloween, Christmas and everything else. I love Hershey’s, did I miss your favorite? Comment and let me know.No better way to end this than with this ad:
