Top 5 Star Trek Bridge Crew’s

A few months ago I was ranking the crews by departments, until I kind of ran out because the different roles vary show to show. Only two shows have a communication officer (gee wonder who was better). Neither DS9 or Voyager had a navigator (Sulu or Paris? Not sure, Paris is a better pilot but Sulu has combat experience), Voyager had no science officer (Data, Dax or Spock, ugh). And TOS had no security officer (man Worf, Odo, or Tuvok who would you pick?!). So I was thinking if there was anything else and realized I could just decide which crew was the best.

So how am I going to make these choices? Basically which crews do I like every character and enjoy spending time with over and over. And I can’t stress enough, just opinion.

#5.Enterprise

It’s no secret I did not get into this show and the reason lands right on this boring cast. Archer was a bad character but well played and T’Pol was awesome but that’s it. They’re just so bland and boring. This is the first Trek show I honestly felt like the casting sucked and most didn’t get enough to do half the time.

#4.Deep Space Nine

A lot of people are disagreeing with me I know. Like the other lists I did, I’m not saying that this crew was bad it just wasn’t my personal favorite. And this crew was good right up to badass Sisko. You really felt like every character was a pro who excelled in there job. But they don’t resonate like the other shows, Kira’s episodes were so boring for instance. DS9 was more about the strong supporting cast like Garak and Nog which even the show recognized and if this list was best guest cast it would easily be the top.

#3.The Next Generation

Ok full disclosure. The last two and first were easy. It was deciding between this and the next was hard. I’ll explain why I chose how I did on the next section. As for this crew, they did the impossible. They convinced pissed off Trek fans that it was ok to like Trek without Kirk and Spock. The characters are so well done from Data to Geordi to Troi. We still love them almost 40 years later. Watching them evolve from the bland season 1 is simply fascinating and seeing them again on Picard was delightful.

#2.Voyager

Ok so how can I say this? Especially when Voyager has been called TNG light. And even I’ll admit it’s not the best Trek show for different reasons. Over the years I’ve found myself coming back to Voyager more then Next Generation. And this year I think I’ve finally figured out why, as I alluded to in another article. TNG has great characters, but Voyager felt more like a family. In TNG you can have an episode where one or two characters hardly appears. That’s much more rare on Voyager. TNG was people I’d work with, Voyager is people I’d hang out with. Yes Next Gen had the family thing too but with Voyager it was different somehow. I just love coming back and spending time with these characters.

#1.The Original Series

Obviously. I mean of course I’d pick the classic. I talked the other day about how one of the big reasons Star Trek IV worked is because it gave all our characters something to do, no one was ignored. There’s a reason why people love coming back to this show over and over and over again aside from the stories and stuff like that.  It’s because we love spending time with these people. This has to be one of the best cast series ever. And it means even more to me in ways I can’t explain here. Live long and prosper.

By the way the pic at the top was the best collage I could find and yes it has the Kelvin timeline crew. And to be fair while I have issues with that movie it was very very well cast and if you took the name Star Trek off of it I’d have said it was a good group. But since it is Star Trek all it’s doing is copying something that was already done better.

Agree? Seriously disagree? Let me know.
