However, a few did go to the level of more than a cute girl. Kirk was capable was real feelings and when he was experienced true heartbreaker it was devastating. So, here are my favorite women of the many Kirk has been with over three series and six movies. Unlike the last list the rules are different. It's not necessary they had a long-term relationship what I am looking for here is chemistry. Did Kirk really have feelings for these people?
Let’s first talk about a few people some may be surprised not on this list. Janice Lester, because come on! Rayna from “Requiem for Methuselah” because they had zero chemistry. Janice Rand I mentioned last time. Elan of Troyius because that was mind control. Ariel Shaw from “Court Martial” could have made it but didn’t. And finally, Antonia, the lady mentioned in “Generations” who we hardly see and barely count as a character.
#5.Gillian (Star Trek IV)
This movie is one of the few that remembered “oh yeah, Kirk likes women!”. Star Trek VI gave us Martia but that wasn’t real and the only other I’ll get to. This is the one time we see romantic Kirk from the series, being all charming and trying his best to win her over. I think they had decent chemistry too.
#4.Marlena Moreau (Mirror,Mirror) & Shana (Gamesters of Triskellon)
This was the hardest slot to fill. As you can see I made it a tie, Marlena had great chemistry with Kirk, find it funny how none of the lists I’ve seen mention her. But I think she counts, Kirk clearly had eyes for her at the end of the episode. I love how she a captains woman but she was no pushover either. As for Shana she begins as a background character you hardly notice but Kirk’s charms win her over and the episode ends on her face promising to live by his example.
#3.Miramanee (Paradise Syndrome)
I always considered this episode to be a massive bore. But when I watched it again a few years ago I was surprised by something I never noticed before. The scenes of the amnesiac Kirk and his love Miramanee are adorable! And in the end she loved him enough to risk her life getting stoned to defend him. Her death was a true tragedy.
#2.Carol Marcus (Star Trek II)
Ok this isn't the biggest romance Kirk had but this one stuck for a lot of fans. So much so the character got reinvented in the Abrams movie "Into Darkness". I think the reason for that is because you can see what Kirk would see in her. She was smart and knew her stuff, but she was not a push over either. It was just the fact she didn’t want in on his life in the stars that kept them apart. She told Kirk to stay away from their son and he respected her so much, that he did just that!
#1.Edith Keeler (City on the Edge of Forever)
I hate to be so predicable but who else could be here? This is the one relationship that just worked. True, a lot complain that someone with Kirk’s eyes for the ladies would never fall for such an ordinary earth girl. But that’s just the point, he has never met someone like her before. She is smart and caring and shares the same values he does. The best part of course is William Shatner and Joan Collin’s have phenomenal chemistry together.
Finally, let’s not forget Kirk’s true love….
