Top 5 Star Trek Romantic Couples

How have I not done this yet? So, as we get closer to Valentine’s Day let’s take a look at something people forget Trek is good for-romance. Yes, there have been some great romantic episodes out there, but I want to talk about more than just a one-episode romance. What about a romance that runs through a series (or beyond) ?

Trek has done a great job giving us some real power couples. We love it with they’re together and feel it when things go bad. Here are my top 5 Star Trek Couples. The only rule is they have to be main characters on the show (sorry Chief O’Brien and Keiko) and the romance has to be more than infatuation. Of course that rules out the original series entirely since the closest we got there was Kirk and Rand…

But that hardly counts. No Chapel and Spock do not count (screw you SNW) and I am not including that stupid Spock/Uhura crap from the new movies.

#5.Tripp and T’Pol (Enterprise)

They get the top spot because they almost shouldn’t count. Since the series was canceled, we never saw where the relationship wound up. However, I really liked the chemistry these two had. Unlike Voyager where I learned to love all the characters, I didn’t like most on this show. These two were a highlight of the show, however.

#4.Kira and Odon(DS9)

I’ll be honest this is the one couple I wasn’t thrilled about. When Odo decided he had feelings for her it seemed so forced. And the idea that Kira would reciprocate was so nuts that it was a plot point in an episode. But as the series progressed, I admit they won me over. They are so sweet together how can anyone resist? Always nice to see a great friendship become more.

#3.Worf and Jadzia (DS9)

I had a hard time placing this couple but here we go. This seemed a little forced too, but it makes sense. Not like the ridiculous Troi/Worf thing that TNG did. And I love how Jadzia shows she can stay toe to toe with Worf. I fully believe he would fall for her and I also believed the devastation when she died. Some may wonder about Sisko and Kassidy, let's call it an honorable mention.

#2.Tom and B’Elana (Voyager)

Some may disagree with the placement here but I’m sorry, I loved this couple. Yeah, they were a bit thrown together at first and they did fight. A lot. But I totally believed their love for each other. Maybe because it grew slowly. I’m glad the relationship grew by getting married and even having a child together at the same end. I really thought they were good for each other, bringing out the best of the other and always there to help the other.

#1.Riker and Troi (TNG)

Of course, who else? This is the OG Trek couple that the others all copy. Even though they are literally a copy of Decker and Ilia from the first movie. But they had great chemistry, a sad backstory, and it’s clear that they were always in love even if their lives conspired to keep them apart. Of course they would marry in the movies, which was nice even though I wish their relationship had been consummated in the series proper. And if you’re wondering I thought about Picard and Crusher but that never really went anywhere.

For those wondering, yes, I know that Discovery had the first openly gay couple on Trek. And while that’s a great thing, as I said before I never watch Discovery.

I do feel bad for leaving off the original series. But Kirk had a different girl every week! The only way to give that series some love is to do the Top 5 James Kirk romances.

So I guess I will!
