Five Forgotten Commercial Mascots

Over the years I talked about my favorite commercial mascots and others that are creepy. But what about the forgotten mascots? It's funny to be as old as I am, and see some mascots have disappaewred that were common when I was a kid. And there are some that faded away so long ago that even I can't remember them! Here are five examples of characters who were a big deal once but now no one remembers them. And let's overlook cereals for now, that's another article!

Geoffrey (Toys R Us)

This could count as a cheat since the image of Geoffrey has returned in an cartoon form. But actually, the character has taken many forms. He was a live giraffe awhile back, and before that a more anthropomorphic giraffe who appeared in commercials. There were also animated versions. What happened to him?

Burger King

No, not the creepy plastic Burger King that just stares at you creepily. No I mean the live action character that appeared in commercials eons ago. Yeah, he was real but never really matched the success of Ronald McDonald. Not hard to see why honestly. Speaking of Ronald...

McDonaldland

Hey who remembers when there was an entire cast of characters that palled around with Ronald? I don't, to be honest. I remember Grimmace, Birdie and Hamburglar but there was a time when the roster included Mayor McCheese, Captain Crook, The Professor, Officer Big Mac, Fry Kids, and later The Happy Meal Gang (am I the only one who thought they were cute?) and of course my personal favorite-The McNugget Buddies! Sadly they have all faded with the times.

Speedy (Alka-Seltzer)

Let's take a trip in the way back machine and talk about Speedy was a cute little character who sang a cute song about Alka-Seltzer. Plop plop fizz fizz! Not sure why he didn't last and couldn't find a reason why he was eventually dropped.

Punchy (Hawaiian Punch)

Hey you know that silly guy you see one packages of Hawaiian Punch? There was a time when he did more than just show up on the labels. Punchy appeared in a dozen of commercials. Not only could argue he was a stereotype, but every commercial had him punching someone. Yeah that's not very PC today.

Finally since all of these examples were really old, here is one more that is a little more current. He was a big deal and then just vanished!

That's just five, there are plenty more out there. Did I miss your favorite? Comment and let me know.
