So on September 26, 1969 a little show premiered on ABC called “The Brady Bunch”. And yes that is fifty years this year. Good lord, I am old. I’ve done about a dozen articles on this show so when while I wanted to acknowledge the 50th anniversary, the question was how? I discussed my favorite episodes and went on and one defending it from people who hate it. I’ve talked about how I grew up with in re-runs and even compared it to other shows and episodes. It would be easy to get into the backstage stuff or talk about where the cast is now, aside from HGTV, but let’s be honest that’s not fun. I want to celebrate the show.
Here are some classic and/or favorite Brady moments from the five years the series ran.
#12.Peter’s Volcano
When Marcia tries to get into a very snobby club, Peter interferes in a very unusual way.
#11.The Detective Story
This isn’t the most memorable episode, though people do remember Peter and his detective kit I think. I like how the mystery is solved by the family all remembering there pat in the disappearance of the earrings.
#10.Greg’s Goat
I wanted all season’s represented and when it comes to season five, there isn’t a lot of choices. So here is one of the decent episodes from that year. About a goat named Raquel. One thing I like about this episode is that it gives a nice layout of the Brady home.
#9.Pork Chops and Applesauce
This moments is one of THE most famous scenes in any Brady episode. This is the episode, and FYI it’s not the greatest episode, where Peter is in search of a new personality. So he tried Humphrey Bogart, with memorable results.
#8.Hustling Alice
So as I said I wanted all seasons on here. And season one is the hardest of them all. I have discussed why I say that elsewhere, so instead here is a funny scene where the family puts on a show to prove to Alice how needed she is. The funny things is that the "act" they put on seems more normal than most other moments on this show!
#7.Davy Jones
Yeah this episode is pretty much a classic, but to be fair it’s not the best episode ever. Since it’s focused on a problem which is a little..out there. But that final scene between Marcia and Davy is just adorable.
#6.Ow my nose!
Oh poor Marcia. I think the reason that this scene is so memorable is because it really does look like Marcia gets nailed by the football. In a sweet family show like this, that’s quite a risk. A well executed stunt which worked.
#5.The Tattletale Talk
I picked this one as a prime example of Mike Brady and his speeches. I just loved the way he would very sternly and yet lovingly talk to the kids. My favorite part is the end of the scene Carol asks if Mike was stern enough. Ya think? I could do a whole article on my favorite Mike Brady speeches but clips are hard to come by.
#4.Mike Saves the Day
Here is a great clip from a decent episode. It didn’t always work when the adults were the focus, this was a kid centered show most of the time, but here is a good one. Esepcially how Mike saves the day at the end.
#3.Mom always said, don’t play ball in the house.
This is one of those classic moments. Not the ball falling from the stairs, but the scene where mom’s favorite vase cracks at the dinner table.
#2.Marcia Marcia Marcia
If you want to hunt down my old blog where I ranted about how awful it is how maligned Jan’s character has gotten, than feel free. I think I’ll spare that rant for now, and here is a scene which is famous for the wrong reasons.
#1.Keep On Moving
Only fair to mention one of the music numbers. And a good chance to point out a huge mistake I made. I made a mention that the Brady’s were a more successful band than the Partridge Family a few articles back. Ah, no. Not quite. The Partridge’s were a real chart topping band and even I know “I think I love You”. While I was never a fan it was wrong for to suggest the Brady Kids were the bigger draw. So, sorry for that. But of course we’re talking about The Brady’s and I felt it only right to leave with this song. I like this the one the best because the episode it was in makes sense, it doesn’t feel as forced as the other musical episodes (Greg trying to sell a record? Johnny Bravo? Why the hell was he singing that clouds song in that one episode?????).
So comment and let me know what your favorite scene or moment for this show. Fifty years and still going strong. Only one logical thing to leave you guys with so here it is:
