Memorable TV Line-Up’s:CBS Monday Night (Fall 1998)
Let’s
go back to CBS, and about twenty-five years after our last time, for
the lineup that surprised me with how much I liked it. I thought I was
getting tired of TV and wouldn’t find a new night of shows I’d love.
Course Must See TV was still around but I thought that would be it. Then
CBS Monday Night’s came around, and suddenly I had a second favorite
night of TV.
It started with this show I kinda liked:
8:00pm
Cosby
This was Bill Cosby’s other show and was only ok. But thanks to a
crossover stunt I started watching the other shows on that night and was
hooked. This show was about a retired Hilton who was cranky,,,,and
stuff I don’t remember. Madeline Khan was in it, that ruled!
8:30pm
The King of Queens
This show wasn’t always perfect. It could be downright stupid at
times. But when it was good, it was really good. So I enjoyed it except
for the occasional stupid episode. And of course Kevin James and Leah
Remini were ideal casting, they had great chemistry. It made a nice lead
in to the next show.
9:00
Everybody Loves Raymond
I did a whole episode guide on this show so there really isn’t much
else for me to say here. It would have been easy to hate this show, but I
can’t help but relate to something in it.
9:30
Becker
Ted Danson was so awesome on Cheers for 11 years it was almost
impossible to imagine him doing another series. Then this show came
along, and people were convinced it was possible. John Becker was the
exact opposite of Sam Malone, this guy was an angry jerk. But Danson’s
charm shined through and we loved it anyway. Could it be stupid? Oh my
yes. Dark too.
Cosby soon vanished and King of Queens took over the 8:00 slot. The
remaining shows were swapped with the lesser know, and for good reason:
These shows were the kind of shows which should have sucked and yet
they both managed decent runs. Text book definition of “time slot hit”.
Though I will admit I did enjoy them at times. Still Standing had Mark
Addy and Jamie Gertz so you knew there was some talent behind those
stupid scripts.
And then of course a little newcomer came along known as:
I hated this show. And I stopped watching once ELR was off the air
and King of Queens was unwatchable by then. So the shows came later,
like New Adventures of Old Christine and How I Met Your Mother were off
my radar.
So it didn’t last forever but for awhile, Monday night was a big TV night for me, Of course it started a decade earier, but that's a subject for another day.
Hm... I don't believe that I really watched any of these shows, except for "2 ½ Men". Yeah, maybe you hate it. But I honestly liked parts of it. Alan was my kind of guy, and many of the other characters had funny moments.

ReplyDeleteThat’s fine love what you love ❤️
DeleteWell, I wouldn't say that I loved "2 1/2 men". Only that I liked parts of it.
