Top 10 Favorite Christmas Moments from "Friends"

friendscast

I’ve talked a lot about sitcoms and Christmas episodes. But “Friends” was a strange apple when it came to Christmas episodes. Usually Christmas was just a part of the episode, and the other part had little to do with the holiday. In some cases it was had so little to do with it that you could almost miss it! It would be sooo easy for this series to appear on a list of great Christmas episodes and a list of episodes set at Christmas that are barely about he holiday. But whether it was a small part of the episode or the whole episode, when they did do Christmas it was usually very memorable.

Here are my top ten favorite Christmas moments from Friends.

#10.Phoebe’s Song from “The One with the Girl from Poughkeepsie”
This is a terrible episode. Not only is it barely a Christmas episode, but the episode itself is just forgettable. The one highlight is the song Phoebe sing.

#9.The Holiday Card from “The One with the Creepy Holiday Card”
This episode is pretty dull and why in the world would Mona want to do a Christmas card with a guy she has been dating just a few short months? Ross isn’t nutty when he’s 100% right!

#8.Chandler in Tulsa from “The One with Christmas in Tulsa”
This is a clip show, which kind of sucks, Especially since this was the last Christmas episode the series would do. It’s so annoying, jus showing random clips from a series. Who would do that? 😉 Anyway this scene from the ending is pretty sweet.

#7.Phoebe’s Charity Box from “The One with the Inappropriate Sister”
This is a good episode actually, the stuff with the titular inappropriate sister if funny. The only Christmas you’ll get is in the B story where Phoebe runs a charity box outside a store. And proceeds to tun it like a tyrant!

#6.New Year’s Eve from “The One with the Resolutions”
Yeah I know this more of a New Year’s moment but I needed it to fill out the list. It’s a cute scene as Joey helps Chandler and Monica openly kiss at midnight.

#5.Night of the Living Dead Christmas Trees from “The One Where Rachel Quits”
I’m of two minds on this one. On the one hand this isn’t the Christmassiest episode ever. We get Joey working at a tree lot while Phobee tries to save the wimpy one’s. And of course Ross’s story which is kind of stupid. But at the end of the day I like it.

#4.Too Many Jokes from “The One with the Monkey”
This episode from the first season is more focused on New Year’s Eve. It kind of starts before Christmas and goes right through, and we get an interesting New Year’s Eve where all the friend no date pact works out despite their best efforts. This scene below is probably the only real Christmas moment, and it’s also one of Chandler’s best.

#3.Phoebe and Rachel Search for Their Presents from “The One with the Routine”
Back in my episode guide I talked about how horrible I thought Rachel and Phoebe are in this episode. Why would you want to spoil getting your Christmas gifts? But while I think they’re stupid for doing that it still makes for a charming scene in an otherwise OK episode.

#2.Joey and Chandler’s Gifts from “The One with Phoebe’s Dad”
This episode is pretty cute as we get a tropical Christmas party while Phoebe discovers who her real father is. But my favorite scene is the tag, when Joey and Chandler give the gang the gifts they bought at a gas station. Great episode.

#1.”The One with the Holiday Armadillo”
Yeah there was really no contest here. This episode is about as Chrismassy as you’re going to get with this series. The B and C story are both rushed to make room for the big story. The thing that I love is how the idea is so dumb. It sounds like something someone came up with while they were stoned or something. Ross dresses up like an armadillo while Chandler dresses up like Santa? Joey comes in as Superman? What?? How did Joey even know that Ross and Chandler were dressed up anyway? As xraxy as the premise it, it works and it’s a great episode.

Merry Christmas all
