For me, I grew to know up by watching Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. He narrated episodes of that and I always knew what a “True believer” was. Though someone please explain to me where Excelsior comes from? I wanted to do a small tribute to him because he truly deserves one. I’d wager there aren’t many who never read a comic book who still don’t have at least some idea who Stan Lee was. That’s why his cameo’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are always so loved. He’s made so many that it’s amazing, and they are all memorable and fun. But others have covered those cameos, and frankly did a great job doing so. A lot better than I anyway. Especially considering how many I never saw. So instead, I thought it might be fun to look at his TV appearances outside the MCU, where he appeared to tell a joke or wink at the audience. Yes I know he played characters too once in awhile.
Muppet Babies
Yeah you read that right. If you’re familiar with the 80’s cartoin you know they were doing dozens of homages and spoofs. Spider-Man was no exception. And when they did Spider-Man, guess who gets the last word?
The Simpsons
At this rate it’s probably safe to say there aren’t very many celebrities out there who have never made an appearance on this show. Next year is the 30th anniversary and I may have to whip something up. For now, he here is Stan Lee on The Simpsons.
The Big Bang Theory
This isn’t a shocker. Since the show revolves around, among other things, the four guys loving comic books of course Stan Lee would appear. What I find fascinating is how early in the series run it happened. I also like his cameo here, aggravated that another nutty fan is knocking on his door.
Teen Titans Go!
Yeah yeah this is a movie but you gotta love Lee coming into a DC movie and mocking his cameo’s from the Marvel movies. Man that guy had a wicked sense of humor!
Spider-Man Cartoon
Yeah yeah this could be considered cheating, but I said I wanted to talk about cameo’s outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This came from the 90’s Spider-Man TV cartoon and is about as meta as you’re gonna get. And a fitting tribute indeed.
There are plenty more out there, including cameos in Mallrats, The Ambulance, and Princess Diaries II. He even has a reality show not that long ago. Plus.Striperella? Ok. So comment below and share you thoughts about this legend. RIP Stan Lee, your place in history is assured! And yeah ok,,,one Marvel cameo to end on!
