A long while back I talked about Christmas movie moments that were a tad..out there. But one thing I never discussed were my favorite Christmas movie moments of all time. Not the whole movie, just a scene. It’s a scene I have to see when watching the film always brings a smile to my face no matter how much I watch it
Here are my favorite Christmas movie moments. No specific order and in this case, theatrical films only.
The Santa Clause
I’ve gushed about this movie before, but here I give you my favorite scene in the film. It’s beautifully staged, as we see the wonders of this Santa’s Workshop while Scott and Charlie make their descent. The best part is that choir singing. This movie doesn’t have the strongest soundtrack but damn I love that Christmas Bell Carol. Sadly, this is the best clip I could find.
And while the second movie was hardly awful there aren’t to many memorable scenes. Here is one sweet one.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol
I’m sorry but that reveal of Pete as The Christmas Future ghost is something I have adored for 35 years now. Aw man, there’s another anniversary I forgot this year. Anyway, a lot of people say The Muppet one was the version that introduced them to the story of “A Christmas Carol”. But thanks to my advanced age this was my first real exposure.
and for you Muppet fans out there, my favorite scene of that film:
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
There a lot of good moments in this movie, and some not so good, but I think this one where we see the house lit is probably the one that most people think of when they think of this movie. Well, for me it is anyway. It’s a great gag.
It’s a Wonderful Life
Yeah yeah I hate being so damn predictable. But that bridge scene is by far one the best scene’s anywhere. I love the acting, and the editing when we see the snow stop as the police car pulls up…signaling everything is normal again! Though it take a second for George to see that his bloody lip has returned. Damn that Frank Capra was good. EVERYONE loves this movie, and this scene in particular. Yeah the actual ending is pretty nice too.
Home Alone
There’s a lot of little things to like in this movie. I talked before about how I did not like it the first time around, but man have I grown to. The best scene is easily that church scene. Not only is it beautifully staged and shot, but damn that’s some nice dialogue between Kevin and the old guy. That discussion about families always gets me. Though I will never understand how or why he got that reputation he did, or was Buzz just that big a jerk?
A Christmas Story
I’ve talked about how I did not like this movie, so why list it here? It did have some good moments. I still remember the laugh the scene got when our father gets the lamp and mispronounces the word Fragile. And the ending is very sweet. But the reason it’s here is because I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this was the 35th anniversary of this little gem. Which many people consider their favorite Christmas movie of all time. So while not on my must watch list it deserves a nod. So here is a scene I never forgot, though not for the same reasons as the others here. The Santa scene is still as awful as it was when I saw the movie back in 1983 (which I now realize made me a tad too young for this film).
By the way there is another little Christmas movie also having an anniversary this year. But we’ll get back to that another time.
The Polar Express
Yes it’s pointless, yes it’s kind of sappy and sugary. But I like this song and it’s a nice scene. This movie has a lot of fast forward moments in it. I mean, a lot! This scene is not one of them…for me anyway.
Finally to end on a scene that doesn’t need a description.
