I
wanted to do something Star Wars related and was trying t come up with a
different idea. Then I remembered one of my favorite parts of every
Star Wars movie. The ending. No not the final action scene, I mean the
literal final minute or two of the movie. These moments are always so
strong, as they wrap everything up with minimal dialogue just that
beautiful music either assuring that things are well or informing us
that the worst is yet to come. And they always end with that cut to the
credits and the Star Wars fanfare. I love that!!!!
So here are now are my top 9 favorite Star Wars outro’s. From the sillier one’s that were kinda lame to the one’s that left me with chills, and wanting more. And obviously, spoilers for these movies.
#9.The Last Jedi
Maybe it’s unfair to put this one so high. Despite its problems I really enjoyed this movie. But the ending didn’t do anything for me. It was like the director saying “FYI this is who is going to save the day next time!”. Yay excitement. I was hoping the last shot was that one on the rebel ship, that was good.
#8.The Phantom Menace
Ugh. I had to watch this one because I honestly couldn’t remember the exact ending. And this last minute or so pretty much sums everything wrong with this movie. I mean, what the heck is this??? This is Star Wars? To be fair the funeral scene before it is strong and powerful. But this...what is this??
#7.A New Hope
Oh how this must have have been a good idea back in the day. When the original Star Wars was the only film out there and there was no guarantee of a sequel. Why else would Lucas give us such a corny and hamfisted ending like this? Except to end the movie with our heroes on a high note. It doesn’t even make sense our heroes are being decorated for saving the universe, and in the next movie things are worst as the rebels scramble to regroup. What happened? This movie is of course a classic it’s just to bad the in hindsight the ending is a little…corny.
#6.Return of the Jedi
Actually this isn’t high because of the light tone of celebration. It makes sense here. It’s high because I can’t stand the revised version Lucas gave us. The new music sucks, seeing all the other locations is stupid, and is that Hayden Christensen? I prefer the classic. Though even that I have issues with, I would have liked a little more of Luke’s reunion with Han and Lea other than congratulatory hugs. Thank goodness The Last Jedi finally came along to do it better.
#5.Attack of the Clones
I hated this movie but the ending is solid. The thing I like is the marriage of Padme and Anakin isn’t overly sweet and romantic. There is a tinge of dread as they get married and we get the feeling that nothing good will come from this. It’s a nice change of pace (and so much better than Phantom Menace!).
#4.Rogue One
Yeah I know this one probably shouldn’t count, but hey this way I can almost make it a top 10. And despite the obvious CGI used, that final shot of Princess Lea still gives me chills. In a good way! And who can go wrong with more badass Darth Vader?
#3.Revenge of the Sith
I’m sorry but the ending is just beautiful! This movie is far from perfect but I always liked it. Unlike the two before it I always considered this the fourt part of the Star Wars trilogy. Before the two new movies made that word redundant. The best part is how wonderfully nostalgic it feels! They went above and beyond to make the ending feel like it would naturally lead to A New Hope and it does. From that final shot of The Death Star being built to that close of Baby Luke being handed off to his aunt and uncle. You know people make fun of that NOO!!! but that last shot of Vader with the Emperor is pretty damn intimating!
#2.The Force Awakens
I was pretty happy with this movie, killing off Han Solo aside, but this ending was just beautiful. The whole movie has been leading to the answer of the big question, where is Luke Skywalker? So they had to make his appearance at the end of the film epic. It is. The action is almost non existend it’s all in the faces of Rey and Luke. It was a powerful image to end on and I loved it. Even if Last Jedi kind of ruined it.
#1.The Empire Strikes Back
I put this on here #1 because I always remembered the ending. I didn’t get it, was way to young, but that final visual of our heroes staring out at the stars with optimism was something that always stayed with me. And now that I am older, it’s even more fascinating that they would be so optimistic after all the crap that happened in the movie. I have said before this was not my favorite Star Wars movie, much like with TWOK, by the time I was old enough to understand it, well it just never became my all time favorite as so man consider it there’s. But the credit where credit is due, and this was a fantastic ending to a damn good movie.
So what do you guys think? Agree or disagree? Comment and let me know.
