Five Memorable TV Phones

Almost every show features characters talking on a phone at some point. And usually that's just what it is, a normal phone we used at the time. From The Brady Bunch using a rotary phone to Friends using cell phones, you can literally track the progress of telephone's by watching various TV shows.

However, some shoes think outside the box a little and get creative with their phones. They have their characters using phones which, at the time, were either impossible to imagine or maybe they did exist but good luck getting one. Here are five:

Get Smart

This show was a great sendup of spy movies and TV, with the great Don Adams in the lead role. He is best remembered as Inspector Gadget but he truly shined in this show too. And one thing everyone remembers about this series, is the shoe phone he used to call the chief. The fact that this phone worked at all is ridiculous, but we loved it.

The Flintstones

The fact that the Flintstones had any appliances is, of course, ridiculous. Some they tried to explain, others you just had to accept. The phone is a great example of this. There is no way they could have a traditional lan line phone but here it is. Even cooler is it looked like..something. I looked it up and finally I know it was called a Rock Bell Phone. I love how the creators didn't think a phone was far fetched but making it push button instead of a rotary was too far!!

Batman

We all know about the Bat Phone! I love how the creators went the extra mile. Rather than just have it be a phone sitting there, they made it bright red which flashed and beeped when a call came in. That was a clever way to make it stand out and be remembered. It was silly, and why did it need a cloche? And like I talked about last summer, it was never explains how Batman could route a call when all there was to activate it was one button you pushed.

Miami Vice

One of the cool things on this show was how Don Johnson had a car phone he could use whenever he wanted. Of course, you may be thinking "yeah,so?". But remember this was the early 80's and a car phone was up there with cordless phones and flying cars. It was a fantasy item, and made the show way cooler.

Saved By The Bell

Again, you may be wondering what the big deal is. Zack used to have a brick cell phone that he would always use to put his little schemes into motion. The thing to remember, this is 1989 and no one had phone's like these. Unless you were a repairman or something. I remember seeing these thing in the day and they were horrendous. But Zack made them cool. It’s hard to believe now but back then no kid had there own phone! I haven't seen the new show yet, what is he using these days?

Did I miss one you think should have been mentioned? Comment and let me know.

  4. "The Flintstones" was based on life in the 1960s, but it was supposed to kind of look like the Stone Age. The same thing was going on with "The Jetsons", but it looked like the future instead.
