For example, who never heard of this one:
Yeah it’s a great little jingle which we all know and love. Even though I can’t stand Almond Joy or Mounds. But damn that ad is memorable. Here are ten more examples of what I mean. Most of these are ear worms which I talked a lot about before. And let me be clear about one thing, there is nothing wrong with these products. I’m sure many people enjoy them it’s just that I do not.
Sprite
I hate sprite, it’s like a half ass version of 7-Up and i can barely stand that. But this jingle from the 80’s is fantastic. It’s catchy, it’s simple, and it’s well done.
Good and Plenty
I have no use for these candies, and this ad is vintage coming from when before I was ever around. But damn if that song isn’t memorable as hell. Who doesn’t like Choo Choo Charlie?
Big Red Gum
Remember a few weeks ago I talked about the Juicy Fruit ad’s from the 80’s? Well this one for Big Red is another classic. I probably saw these ads a million times as a kid. Did I ever try the gum? Hmmmm…..
Volkswagen
This one took the country by storm briefly around 1997. The setup is pretty, well, boring it’ just two guys driving around with nothing to do. But what everyone remembers is that Da Da Dah song. And yes it’s a real song by the German group Trio. Maybe this is cheating a bit since it’s not a true “jingle” but when else am I going to get to bring this one up?
Alka Seltzer
Another retro one from the good old days. I have no use for the product but damn if this isn’t the greatest jingle ever made!
Dr.Pepper
Ah, the 70’s. I said I hated sprite, but man did I hate Dr.Pepper. But that being said, who didn’t want to be a Pepper in the 70’s when this ad popped up?
Wrigley’s Doublemint Gum
You know, if the Big Red was a memorable 80’s jingle than this one DEFINED the 80’s. It’s so memorable that people still refer to it.And since I seem to be singing the praises of Wrigley’s, sure why not:
Chili’s
I am not a fan of this chain, mostly due to a stomach which does not enjoy spicy foods, but damn if can’t help but sing along to this one.
Mentos
Again, I have no interest for this little candy but who doesn’t remember these corny as hell commercials? They were so out of the 70’s…even though they were made in the 90’s.
Raisin Bran
Ah, the 80’s. How do they make a great song for a boring as s product? Just two scoops!!! Actually the scenarios in these are ads are lame as people turn back from their jobs for another lousy bowl of raisin bran. It’s the song that makes it work.
Now, before everyone starts wondering if there is anything I actually like, here are a couple fantastic jingles from products that I do really enjoy
Cool Whip
Oreo
Oscar Meyer
Coke
and finally, no other ads gives me pains of nostalgia as this one…
Yeah there are more from Toys R Us to Osh Kosh B’Gosh but I think that’s enough. I couldn’t think of any more recent. Do they even make clever advertising anymore? Though to be fair with the way things are today it’s probably harder than ever to get people to watch ads. It’s kind of a shame honestly.
