There are lots of life events that almost every TV shows will give us, from child birth to weddings to marriage proposals. After all these are supposed to be “real” people so its only right we see them go through these experiences. And when done right, they make us as happy as the characters are. And we even cry at them! The wedding proposal is a huge one, since it can go either way. But when it is a yes, especially when it is done with a couple we have been watching for seasons, it’s a true moment of joy for the audience.
One thing, these are proposals that took. Also this NOT a TOP list because there are only so many clips online I could find and a few I’d have had on here in a second are not available. That being said, here are ten memorable sitcom proposal’s.
#10.Frasier
I'm unable to find a clip of Niles proposing to Daphne, so instead here is Martin proposing. Though it sounds less like a marriage proposal and more like a business proposal.
#9.The Cosby Show
What better way to propose than with your family around you. No pressure there.
#8.The Big Bang Theory
We'll get to Leonard and Penny, but first let's talk about Sheldon finally proposing to Amy. The fact that this character even got to this point is just remarkable. And this works because their relationship has been sweet, you can see what they see in each other. And being Sheldon, we get a very traditional proposal,
#7.Boy Meets World
We had been waiting for Cory and Topianga to get together forever. Who would have thought it would be Topanga asking?
#6.Mad About You
I always like the one’s that are almost an accident. Like this sweet moment from Mad About You with Paul and Jamie.
#5.The Office
So who needs romance or a nice setting, what’s wrong with a gas station in teh rain? Almost as if to say that they know this was doen to death, when Jim finally asks Pam to marry him you can hardly hear the dialogue. But the acting pulls it off and since we’ve been cheering for them for so long, we don;t need to see anymore. Simple and sweet.
#4.Full House
I kind of like how simple this one is. And it’s for two logical reasons. One, we already saw Rebecca and Jesse get engaged and try to marry in Tahoe. That didn’t end well, but since we had a fake out we could downplay the real one. And while it doesn’t have the pop and circumstance, it’s still really sweet. The wedding wasn’t my favorite but I love the proposal.
#3.The Big Bang Theory
There have been a few proposals on this show but I wanted to mention Penny and Leonard’s. It was a running gag for awhile having Leonard propose all the time. So how to do the one that takes? It’s very simple and understated. But the acting takes it up a notch so it works. No big flair or fancy spectacle. just two people saying they love each other.
#2.Everybody Loves Raymond
Now for the spectacle. When Robert finally proposed to Amy it was an event people had been waiting for. So the show really did it up. Big. I mean, this is the one proposal on this list which is totally unrealistic. But so what it’s sweet and romantic, and after all the back and forth with these two they needed it to be done big.
#1.Friends
Again there have been a few proposals here, mostly from Ross. But the one I am focusing on is the big one when Chandler and Monica finally got engaged. The whole episode is pretty good with Tom Selleck’s Richard getting in the way. When we do get the scene below, man is it well done. The emotion is raw and…I’m not crying! You’re crying!!!
Lots of honorable mentions from Coach (which I couldn’t find a clip for!) to Cheers to Scrubs to Happy Days. Maybe if I can hunt down these clips I will be back with that. For now, let me know which one you like that I should have included
