Ten Great Christmas Scenes from Non-Christmas Movies

Back in July I talked about how a lot of movies will have a Christmas scene or two in them even though there is nothing at all Christmassy in the movie. But the funny thing, some of these scenes are wonderful Christmas scenes!

Sometimes the movie is set around Christmas but the holiday is basically ignored. Like in Gremlins…which I don’t talk about. . Of course Christmas appearing in movies that have nothing to do with the holiday is not new. Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, First Blood, Red..just to name a few! these were set at Christmas even though they are hardly festive. But then there those other times the movie isn’t set at Christmas at all..save for literally one scene.

So here are few examples of movies having nothing to do with Christmas giving us a scene that almost makes you forget it isn’t a Christmas movie! In no particular order.

10.Star Trek:Generations
So Picard enters the nexxus and experiences his hearts desire (or whatever) which happens to be Christmas morning surrounded by his loving family. Nice.

9.Batman Returns
Ok this is a cheat since the whole movie is clearly set at Christmas time. But let’s be honest, is there any scene that feels like a Christmas scene? This one does. At first.

8.Addams Family
This was so hilarious that I loved it for ages! In the teaser for The Addams Family movie, we open to a sweet scene of Carolers singing. Then the shot shows the home, and starts to go up…and you know just watch it, it was one of my favorite movie moments for a long time.

7.Edward Scissorhands
This is such a sweet scene that I’ve seen it played on clip shows about fantastic Christmas movie moments. The thing is, Christmas is barely in this movie which actuallu gets pretty dark. Hey this is Tim Burton too, weird.

6.Harry Potter
When you watch this scene it isn’t hard to see why ABC Family (oh excuse, Freeform) drags this one out in December. The first movie was really pretty good and this scene was too.

5.You’ve Got Mail
This is a sweet romcom and this Meg Ryan scene does a nice job summing up what it’s like to be sad on the holidays. What about When Harry Met Sally? Couldn’t find a clip.

4.Lady and the Tramp
You show this clip to someone who had never seen the movie I’d bet anything they would refuse to believe this isn’t a Christmas movie.

and yes Toy Stoy did it too….

3.Alvin and the Chipmunks
I guess this one was pretty obvious! If you’re going to do the “origin” of Alvin and the Chipmunks you have to include how they came out with this Christmas classic.

2.Mean Girls
Pretty much speaks for itself. The movie is ok but this scene, well, rocks!

1.Goodfella’s
Remember how I said violent action movies ae often set at Christmas? Hey just because there mobsters who kill people doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy the holidays!

Finally, I know when I think exciting endings to action movies the first song I think of is…. “Let is Snow”?? Gotta love Die Hard

There are plenty more, like a scene from The American President that I was sadly unable to find a clip of. Did I miss your favorite? Comment and share.
